Brooklyn Nets NBA Trade Rumors: Jeff Teague and Jarrett Jack Options For Jason Terry Deal With Cavaliers Coming At Deadline?

The Brooklyn Nets have not been mentioned much in trade rumors this season, but heading out of the All-Star break, reports have the team looking into a deal for Cavaliers point guard Jarrett Jack for Jason Terry, while Jeff Teague has also been mentioned as a potential target.

According to ESPN.com, sources have said that the Nets and Cavaliers are looking into a deal involving Terry and Jack, as Brooklyn is looking to make a hard playoff and division push in the second half and would like to add more depth to the back court. Terry came over in the Boston Celtics deal for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett and ESPN.com writes that the Cavs would engage in the deal and then find another team to take on the contract of Terry to make the deal work.

The Nets have played much better over the past two months since starting the season as rough as the Knicks and they now are just a few games back of the Toronto Raptors in the Atlantic division. Jack is 30 years old and considerably younger than Terry and he has been averaging eight points this season while playing in 25 minutes per game for the Cavs. Jack came to the Cavaliers after establishing himself as a valuable bench player last season with the Golden State Warriors during their mini-playoff run and now he could join the Nets to help solidify the backcourt and give depth to Jason Kidd for Deron Williams.

The Nets are already in a tough salary cap situation and they feel adding strength now will help the team come playoff time and will deal with any other luxury tax issues.

Terry has been mostly a non-factor for the Nets since coming over in the trade and he is making $5.6 million for this year and then he gets paid $5.85 million for the 2014-15 season. Jack signed a deal that owes him over $6 million for the next three years after coming over in the offseason and this wouldn't be a terrible deal for the Cavaliers either, as they have one of the youngest rosters in the NBA and could use some veteran leadership.

The Cavaliers had been mentioned as a team that could sell at the deadline before firing their general manager and they made one of the first big moves of the season with the acquisition of Luol Deng. The team isn't looking likely to trade Dion Waiters now and adding a veteran like Terry could be good long term for point guard Kyrie Irving.

ESPN.com has also reported that the Knicks are looking into a trade involving Atlanta Hawks point guard Jeff Teague and that if the team eventually backs out, the Nets could also be another landing spot. The report comes as the Knicks want to find an upgrade at the point guard position and after striking out on a decent deal for Kyle Lowry from the Raptors, the Knicks have now turned their attention towards Teague. The point guard was sought after this offseason and the report says that the Hawks would be interested in trading for Iman Shumpert in a deal for Teague and one reason would be to get rid of his contract, which has three more years on it after he signed a $32 million deal over four years.
