Derek Jeter Retirement Schedule 2014: New York Yankees SS Final Game At Fenway Park Against Boston Red Sox

Feb 12, 2014 03:59 PM EST

New York Yankees shortstop and future Hall of Famer Derek Jeter announced on Wednesday that 2014 would be his final season and that means his final game will be at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox and it comes after 15 years in the league.

Last season he was injured and played in just 17 games and that came after one of his best seasons and now he will be on his final contract in his final season in pinstripes. Jeter had averaged over 150 games per season before last year and he will retire as a 13 time All-Star and he has won five World Series and could add one more this season. Jeter is considered one of the best players in Yankees history and he will retire at the age of 40, which he turns in June.

I suppose it makes perfect sense that the Yankees star will finish his career against a team he played more than any other in the Boston Red Sox and that will be in September on the 28 and the series will run from September 26-28 and the four game set before that will be his final run at Yankee Stadium and that will be against the Baltimore Orioles.

In fact, Jeter finishes his career with nearly a full month of divisional games, as a three game series at home against the Kansas City Royals is the only one not in the AL East over September. The team finishes up August with the Toronto Blue Jays on the road and then has the Boston Red Sox at home for his final games against them at the Stadium and after that is the KC series before the team hosts Tampa Bay.

The Yankees then hit the road for Jeter's final games at Camden Yards against the Orioles and then at Tropicana Field, which he is probably fine with, against the Rays in Tampa Bay and after that is another long home set with the Blue Jays coming to town before the Baltimore Orioles for four games. The final game at the Stadium will be against the Orioles on Thursday September 25 and then his final game will be Sunday, September 28 at Fenway Park if he is healthy by the end of the season.
