Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Michael Vick to Accept Nick Foles Backup Job, QB Seeks Contract Extension as Matt Barkley Hurts Future in 2014

Michael Vick is once again a free agent and has no idea where he will be playing in 2014. The Philadelphia Eagles quarterback missed time to injury once again this season and ended up losing the starting job to Nick Foles who exceled in his absence. Now Vick has his future in question. Despite his age, he plans to remain a starting quarterback, just maybe not in Philly.

Vick told reporters that he fully plans on being a starting quarterback in the NFL next season and will go to whichever team will take him. The 34-year-old has not played a full season in the league since 2009 thanks to a variety of injuries. His durability has turned a lot of teams away. Vick says he is not worried about his health and remains confident in his abilities on the field.

"I don't worry about it," Vick said, via CSNPhilly.com. "My skill set is still there, my arm is still there, my legs are still there, I'm still a playmaker, that's evident. I think at some point I'll be playing somewhere."

Vick did show signs of football life this year. He won the starting job after a strong preseason. He tossed for 1,215 yards five touchdowns in seven games this season, completing 54.6 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 306 yards and two touchdowns. However, Foles stepped in when Vick was injured and blew people away. He threw for 2,891 yards and 27 touchdowns in 13 games while the Eagles went on to win the NFC East. Those stats alone make him the starting quarterback now, next year and possible years down the road.

Vick has said he wants to be a starter for two more years and then become a valuable veteran backup with a team, but the later role might come sooner than he originally planned. Vick said if he is unable to find a job as a starter this season, then he is open to returning as a backup to Foles if "all else fails."

"It all depends what happens, where I'm at in my career. Never rule it out," Vick said. "But I'm not thinking of that right now. I'm not thinking about the future. I'm just thinking about doing whatever I can to help this team win a Super Bowl."

Right now, the Eagles also have rookie Matt Barkley to play backup. It seems unlikely that they will release Barkley in favor of Vick. Plenty of teams will be looking for quarterback options and Vick might get lucky.
