The ESPN college football schedule picks up on Wednesday on New Year's Day with a nice matchup of the UNLV Rebels taking on the North Texas Mean Green and the game will be for the Heart of Dallas Bowl Presented by Plainscapital Bank and the game will be on ESPNU and streaming online from the WatchESPN website and will be the first bowl game to kick off the day in 2014 from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

The Rebels come into the game after winning over the San Diego State Aztecs and they won that game bit by the score of 45-19 and they are now coming into the game with a 7-5 record with quarterback Caleb Herring and he had a solid season with 2,522 yards passing and an impressive 22 touchdowns and the team comes in with two straight wins to end the season with Air Force and SDSU and the team lost two games before that with Utah State and San Jose State and they won a game over Nevada after losing to Fresno State. The team started the season with two straight losses and then won five of their next six games and four in a row against Central Michigan, west Illinois, New Mexico and Hawaii before losing their only game against a ranked opponent in Fresno State and now they go up against North Texas.

The Cotton Bowl will be host to the game and the Rebels are into the postseason for the first time in a decade and that means quarterback Caleb Herring will have the chance to end the season on a positive note after their head coach won just six games in his first three seasons and now North Texas comes into the game after playing in the New Orleans Bowl a decade ago and senior Tim Cornett led the Rebels in rushing with 1,251 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season and Devante Davis should be ready for a big game as well with 77 receptions for 1,194 yards and 14 touchdowns and this could end up being the highest scoring matchup of the day.

North Texas heads into the game after winning their final matchup on the road against Tulsa while scoring 42 points and the team is ranked eighth in the nation in scoring defense with 18 points per game and the offense is averaging 31 points per game. The team comes into the bowl game after winning six of their last seven games, including five in a row before losing to UTSA and Rebels come into the matchup having played well this season and they won three of the past five games to end the season.
