Terrelle Pryor's career continues to see its fair share of highs and lows. The Oakland Raiders quarterback fell somewhat out of favor after he hid a knee injury that took him out of the game for a few weeks. However, in his absence, rookie Matt McGloin stepped in as an excellent option at quarterback. Now that Pryor has yet to see another start, his agent is ripping the team.
Jerome Stanley told CSN Bay Area that he believes Raiders head coach Dennis Allen has an agenda against Pryor. The quarterback has in fact been named the starter for the season finale, but the agent believes Oakland is really only doing so to see if Pryor fails.
"I think they're putting him in hopes that he fails," Stanley said. "That's what I think Coach is doing. I think they're putting him in hopes that he has a bad game, so he can then justify the Matt McGloin situation. I think that's what's going on, I do and it's ridiculous."
Going public with these allegations is pretty bad for everyone involved. Pryor has spoken out apologizing for his agent's comments, but did not deny the belief that they may be true. Now, people have to wonder about motives. If Pryor fails in Week 17, are the agent's comments justified?
"I expect Terrelle Pryor to be a successful starting quarterback in the NFL," Stanley said. "I expect that. I'll be shocked if it didn't happen. Terrelle Pryor is the best and most dynamic athlete in the NFL playing the quarterback position. He also has won games and been productive when given the opportunity. It's not brain surgery."
Allen has spoken out saying he would be using the final weeks of the season to evaluate the quarterback position. It seemed very likely that Pryor would see one more start before the year was over in order for the team to get a feel for what is to come next year.
Against the Raiders on Sunday, McGloin went 20 for 36 for 206 yards and an interception in the loss. Entering in as the fourth-string option as a undrafted rookie, McGloin looks poised to be the quarterback of the future.
Pryor went 3-5 as a starter. He completed 57.7 percent of his passes for a total of 1,591 yards, five touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Allen sounds like he has more confidence in McGloin going into 2014, but it is all speculation at this point.
"We got a chance to see Matt McGloin for six games," Allen said. "I liked a lot of things that I saw in Matt. Obviously, there were mistakes. He wasn't quite as sharp as he had been earlier, in a couple of the earlier games, but I've been pleased with what I've seen out of Matt McGloin from, really, the first moment he walked on campus here. I think we have a guy that can be in our plans for the future, and I'm glad he's on this football team."
For now, the pressure is on Pryor. If he fails to step up in the last game, things are going to get very muddy in Oakland.
