Chicago Bears Rumors: Brian Urlacher Wants Josh McCown, Not Jay Cutler to Start Week 15, Marc Trestman Questioned as Linebacker Supports Backup QB

Marc Trestman and Josh McCown might support Jay Cutler as the starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears, but there are a few people who do not. Right now, the veteran remains questionable after suffering an ankle injury a few weeks back. The head coach has said once he is healthy, Cutler will return as the starter despite how well McCown is playing. Former Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher does not agree with the decision.

Current NFL analyst Urlacher was asked his opinions on the quarterback situation in Chicago. Based on stats, the linebacker would rather see McCown remain the starting quarterback over Cutler as the Bears push for the playoffs in the final weeks of the season. Urlacher continued saying that he does believe Cutler could have played against Dallas, but the coaching staff stuck with McCown and he really questions the motives behind naming him the starter upon return.

"In my opinion [McCown] should be the guy," Urlacher said Tuesday on FOX Football Daily. "He should be the starting quarterback for the Bears, even if Jay Cutler is healthy. You can't take a guy who is this hot out of a football game. If I was on that team, I'd have a hard time taking him out. I think Jay might be healthy right now.  That's just me talking. You watch the film of him moving around earlier this week? Look at the numbers since Josh has come in, their 3-2... the yards are there, the wins are there, he's making great decisions with the football."

Urlacher certainly has a case for his argument. McCown has been playing lights out since getting the starting job in wake of Cutler's injury. He has tossed 13 touchdowns and just one interception as a starter. He leads the league with an 85.7 QBR. Despite the strong numbers a voiced support from teammates, McCown will take a backseat as Cutler is expected to start this coming week and the backup is fine with re-taking his place on the team.

"I understand that Jay's the starter, and he does too, and our team does and we're building this thing around him," McCown said, via "The Carmen & Jurko Show" on ESPN Chicago 1000. "More importantly, for everybody, it's not just Josh and Jay, let's just be for the Bears and for the Bears playing good football and winning football and that's the thing that matters the most no matter who's in at quarterback. That's all I care about."
