Houston Texans Rumors: Jay Cutler and Michael Vick 2014 NFL Free Agent Targets At Quarterback For Matt Schaub?

Dec 06, 2013 04:05 PM EST

The Houston Texans have been the worst team in the NFL this season and after losing their 11th straight game to the Jaguars on Thursday night football and firing coach Gary Kubiak, the team could be in for big changes next season and at quarterback, it could be a name like Jay Cutler or Michael Vick who takes over for Matt Schaub, who had a terrible season in 2013.

The Texans are looking like they will have the number one pick in the draft and while they could take a quarterback, there is a good chance the team could look into free agency and take someone else with a top pick. The team has been terrible on offense this season and while rookie Case Keenum has been solid, it's unclear whether he is the QB of the future and the way the team benched and played Schaub this season, he is likely done in Houston.

Cutler is injured right now for the Chicago Bears and while the franchise would like to keep him, there is a chance that he will ask for too much money from them and that could lead to a split. Vick is clearly the backup now that Nick Foles has come into his own with 19 touchdowns and zero picks and after signing a one year deal with the Eagles, he could move on to the Texans or another team that needs a quarterback like the Minnesota Vikings. Cutler and Vick are solid options and so are Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater and now the team has to decide what it wants to do next.

Ander Johnson could possibly get traded and other moves could be made and with Arian Foster injured once again, the team also has to decide about signing Ben Tate to a deal and he could end up with starter money on another team. The Texans are just 2-11 this season and the team is in a terrible slump and they could easily be 0-13, as they started their first two games with wins in the final minute.

Cutler passed for over 3,000 yards last season and had 19 touchdowns and this year he has played in eight games and has passed for 13 touchdowns and the fact that he has played in less than 16 games I all but one season for the Bears could mean a split. He has been limited this season and while he has a big arm, the team may not want to put tons of money into someone that is injury prone at QB.
