The New York Giants have a plan to contain Dez Bryant. While the Dallas Cowboys receiver has been a forced to be reckoned with this year, but the Giants defenders believe they know the key to stopping him. Despite being sixth in the league for touchdowns, safety Will Hill says Bryant folds under contact.
"Get your hands on him," Hill said, via NJ.com. "He doesn't like to be touched, like most receivers in this league. But really him. He doesn't like to be touched. "Yeah, once he gets the ball, [he's physical].He has to get in his route in order to get the ball. Just like any receiver, if you get your hands on him before they can get into their route, it's hard to get him the ball when you disrupt their routes."
Bryant stands at 6-foot-2, 222 pounds so the idea that he does not handle contact well seems crazy, but Hill is convinced that his is the best way to stop the receiver from scoring. While that may or may not work, the Giants have just given the Cowboy's biggest playmaker bulletin board material for extra motivation.
When asked about the comments made by Hill, Bryant simply laughed off the idea that he does not work well under physical contact.
"You know, whatever that gets them motivated, all I know is Sunday, I'm going to play my game," Bryant said, via Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "We, us - as a team, as well - are coming out playing our game. They can say whatever they want to say. That's what they believe, we'll let them believe that. We're going to out, and we're going to play our game."
The last time the two teams faced one another, the Giants did their best to keep Bryant from making plays and it seemed to work. The Cowboys receiver had just four catches for 22 yards, so whatever the team did it worked well. Bryant has proved he can handle any type of coverage this season which is why he has 749 yards on the year.
The Giants understand that if they are going to get their fifth-straight win this year, keeping Bryant quiet will be the key. Head coach Jason Garrett is prepared for his wide receiver to get plenty of attention and will likely face double-coverage the entire game.
"Teams do that. Dez is one of those guys that gets a lot of attention," Garrett said. "He's one of those players that a lot of teams have that becomes a focal point of the opposing defense to try and take him out of the ball game. He's faced that really throughout his career. He's done a good job and just needs to understand that is his reality."
