Dallas Cowboys Trade Rumors: Adrian Peterson Deal Still An Option For Jerry Jones? Miami Dolphins, Ravens and Atlanta Falcons Possible Fits For Vikings RB

Nov 15, 2013 11:30 AM EST

The Dallas Cowboys didn't pull off a big move at the trading deadline like many speculated for Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson, but even with the deadline passing, there is a chance Jerry Jones could try again in the future, as the running back said he understands that the NFL is a business and that his future may not remain with the Vikings.

Peterson spoke to reporters before the team's upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks and ESPN.com reported that Peterson said that he would like to continue playing for the Vikings, but that he would understand if the team wanted to deal him to help the rebuilding process. Peterson was one of the names mentioned in trade rumors at the deadline this year with the Vikings only 1-5 on the season and while the team never seriously entertained a deal for him, there is a chance that could change down the line in the future.

The team is just 2-7 this season and even though Peterson has a big contract after signing a seven-year, $100 million deal in 2011, he should be a prime target for teams. The Cowboys do not really have room for Peterson's contract, but Jerry Jones has done crazier things and it wouldn't be surprise to hear his name come up once again if rumors start to pop up. The Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens and Atlanta Falcons all could be in situations where they could use a new starting running back and if a player like Peterson is on the market, there is a good chance it could happen.

The Vikings are headed for a season without the playoffs and Peterson is on pace to rush for about 1,400 yards a year after he went over 2,000 and won the MVP award. Peterson has 10 touchdowns this season and once again has an impressive 4.5 yards per carry and now he could have a new home in the future. The Dolphins have not had much of a rushing attack since losing Reggie Bush and the Cowboys have gone through numerous running backs over the years and have not been satisfied and now it looks like DeMarco Murray is the latest in that long line. The team also has Joseph Randle, but Jones would love to bring the Texas product in Peterson back home.

The Falcons could make a big move after the signing of Steven Jackson didn't work out, as general manager Thomas Dimitroff has not been afraid to pull off big deals in the past like he did with Julio Jones a couple years ago. The Ravens appeared set at running back with Ray Rice for years, but with his contract not guaranteed for 2014 and him having an up and down season in 2013, a move could go down in the future.

A deal would likely be hard to pull off and Peterson said that he wants to stay in Minnesota, but often times the overall team performance and other factors are the biggest driving forces behind trades. Peterson said that he understands the NFL is a business and that a trade could happen and that while he hopes to stay with his team, there isn't much he can do about it either.
