Matt Flynn Rumors: Green Bay Packers Sign QB if Healthy, Scott Tolzien Elevated to Roster as Mike McCarthy Confident Seneca Wallace Best Option as Starter

After the Aaron Rodgers' injury, the quarterback situation for the Green Bay Packers is in a state of flux. It is unclear how long Seneca Wallace can hold the team together and with Rodgers now ruled out 4-6 weeks after a broken collarbone, does the team need to look elsewhere for some help?

The first move was to elevate quarterback Scott Tolzien from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. This helps the depth issue currently facing the Packers. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Tolzien will serve as a backup as the team intends for him to spend "multiple weeks" on the roster. Tolzien was undrafted out of Wisconsin and bounced around a few teams before ultimately landing in Green Bay.

The next move could be to sign Matt Flynn. The quarterback is the obvious solution for the Packers. Flynn has plenty of experience with the team. He understands the offense run and right now he is available. Flynn was just released from the Buffalo Bills and cleared waivers. The Packers did not make a claim for him before which could indicate they are not looking to bring Flynn back on. However, ESPN's Ed Werder believes differently.

Werder reports the Packers will likely sign Flynn if he is healthy enough to play. The team likes his past success and knowledge of the system. Werder notes that right now Flynn is the only player in consideration for the Packers if they opt to bring another quarterback in. Players like Vince Young are not being looked at as an option.

The move to bring Flynn back is merely speculation while it does make perfect sense. Right now, Mike McCarthy is expressing full confidence in Wallace to lead the team in wake of Rodgers absence. He is hoping the Packers rally around the quarterback as everyone will be expected to step up.

"He's played in a lot of games, been in the league a long time, I look for him to improve with a week of preparation," McCarthy said, via the Pioneer Press. "I have all the confidence in the world in Seneca. It's my responsibility and our coaching staff's responsibility to make sure the game plan fits his skill set. We'll have a challenging week as a whole offense."

If the Packers are going to sign someone, they could first be waiting to see how Wallace responds to the pressure. Green Bay will face Philadelphia in Week 10 where Wallace is going to be the expected starter. If he does not play well, assume Flynn's phone will ring.
