The Lakers and Clippers are being promoted as two teams battling for L.A. Though the Lakers own all the championships, the Clippers are it now. They have a healthy and more talented team, equipped to compete in the NBA today. The Lakers were hot at the beginning of the decade, but quickly declined as Father Time finally caught up to Kobe Bryant.

It is evident, without Bryant, the Lakers are an average squad that can barely be considered a playoff team. The Lakers do not have a running mate for Bryant and as they will find out quickly, the Lakers will not have a face for their franchise, unless they can pickup one of the superstars that will be available in the 2014 offseason.

The Clippers have Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. That is their foundation. They added key players that should be able to help the Clippers run a decent offense when Jamal Crawford is resting along with Paul and Griffin. The Clippers' problem last year was finding offensive responders when Paul was not running the point. Crawford posted phenomenal games, but being past his prime, he can only do so much.

Indiana Pacers 97-87 Orlando Magic
Paul George led his Pacers to victory as they defeated the Magic in the 2013-2014 season opener. The crowd at the Fieldhouse left pleased as they saw their rising star, George go for 24 points, six rebounds and five assists and three blocked shots in a game that was the Pacers' all along.

However, the Magic took the lead into the third quarter, though it was a very slim advantage. After being outscored 23-18 in the first, the Magic outscored the Pacers 26-17, taking a 44-42 lead after the first 24 minutes of action.

The Pacers regained control, scoring 57 points, holding the Pacers to just 43. The Indiana defense saw a tremendous defensive effort as the team finished an outstanding 18 blocks in the night.
