The Indianapolis Colts are sticking with their current roster. As the NFL trade deadline approaches at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Chuck Pagano announced the team would not be seeking out any potential moves for the remainder of the year. After making a marquee move for running back Trent Richardson, the Colts would not be grabbing a wide receiver despite injuries at the position.
The Colts have lost their biggest offensive target for the remainder of the season. Veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne went down with an ACL tear that leaves the team at a loss, big time. Many believed that Indianapolis would try and seek at least one move before the deadline to replace Wayne on the roster. Jim Irsay is never one to shy away from a trade deal. The team did spend a first round draft pick to get Richardson after injuries left them short at the running back position. However, that will not happen with wide receivers.
Going forward, Indianapolis will rely on T.Y. Hilton, Coby Fleener and Darrius Heyward-Bey as their best options for pass catching. The reason the Colts are "standing pat" as Pagano said could be their salary cap. After aggressively making moves in free agency and trades, the team has just $1.3 million in available space. That would make things very tough if they were trying to sign a marquee player.
Certain wide receivers would be too much of a hit for the Colts. Larry Fitzgerald who has officially been put up for grabs would be an $18 million hit to the cap. Hakeem Nicks would also be a heavy blow while only being with the team for the remainder of the season. The Colts would not give up any more draft picks to grab someone like Josh Gordon who will likely require a minimum of a second-round draft pick to get. They could go for Kenny Britt who is the cheapest option available, but Indianapolis is uninterested.
Fantasy owners would be smart to make a run on any of those three Colts receivers for the remainder of the year. Quarterback Andrew Luck will be running out of options outside of them. The Colts do not have a pass-heavy offense, so not making any trade moves is not going to hurt them.
