The NFL deadline for trades is coming up fast and while some deals have already went down around the league in past weeks, this is the final slate on the schedule that teams can deal and after the Monday Night Football matchup with the St. Louis Rams and the Seattle Seahawks, the deadline will officially end on Tuesday, October 29 at 4:00 PM ET after the schedule finishes up.
Many of the games on Sunday feature players that could be traded and right now the top candidates for trades includes Hakeem Nicks, Kenny Britt, Josh Gordon, Maurice Jones-Drew as well as anyone else on the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Giants likely will not be trading Nicks despite the fact that he is having a down season and is in the last year of his deal, as they would like to sign him and they also are not the type of team that usually pulls off a deal of that sort, even if they are just 1-6 on the year and a miracle away from the playoffs.
The San Francisco 49ers look like a prime option to pull off a trade for a wide receiver, as they are dealing with injuries to Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham, but they are also getting close to returning, meaning the team may decide to hold off. The team is also playing in England for the London game with the Jaguars and those logistics may make it tough for the two teams to make a deal, although that shouldn't hinder anything of they want to make moves.
The Jaguars have already dealt away a former first round pick in Eugene Monroe and it could happen again with Jones-Drew, who has not been himself this season as he is in the final year of his contract. The team may want to just ride things out, but the best bet for a deal is him. The team has seen another club send away their starting running back, as the Colts acquired Trent Richardson from the Browns and that move made many think that this season the trade deadline could be a bit wackier and wild than it usually is, which would be a big change.
The deadline is usually a lot slower than in baseball and one reason is the fact that teams have salary caps and also that they put their rosters together thinking long-term, meaning most teams, unless they have injuries, are usually set for the season. Free agency has helped with that as well and the fact that the draft has been so lucrative for teams over the past few years.
Godon has said that he is frustrated by trade rumors and the Browns have offers on the table for him according to ESPN.com, although they aren't actively trying to trade him. Gordon was the best playmaker for the team last season with 50 catches for over 800 yards and this season he is doing it again, making nearly 30 catches for 450 yards and two scores this season. The 49ers look like a good fit, but so far no immediate or official news has broken about a deal.
