Lawrence Taylor Not Selling Super Bowl Ring; Son Is

As the current defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants received their championship rings on Wednesday night, a ring from Giants glory of old managed to steal some spotlight.

Initially it had appeared that former Giants LB, Lawrence Taylor, had opted to sell off his Super Bowl XXV ring. The bidding is currently hovering around $90,000.

But Taylor revealed Friday that the ring is in fact not his to auction off.  According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Taylor's agent, Mark Sepselter, informed him that the ring was a gift to the former Giant's son.

Taylor is reportedly at peace with his son's decision to part with the ring.

Taylor is unofficially credited with revolutionizing the LB position in the NFL.  His downright violent style of play helped the Giants defense establish what was known as the "Crunch Bunch."  The group consisted of Brad Van Pelt, Harry Carson, Brian Kelly, and Taylor.

In a recent interview, Carson described this stable of LBs as superior to the current group of defensive lineman that New York has relied on for its past two Super Bowl victories.

The original assumption that Taylor himself had been selling the ring, while ultimately incorrect, was not necessarily surprising.  Taylor has had multiple run-ins with the law, including being caught with an underage prostitute in 2010.  The sex worker later insisted that she was sexually assaulted by Taylor.

Some analysts assumed that he was in need of cash for unsavory reasons.
