NFL Trade Rumors: Jon Beason NY Giants Trade With Carolina Panthers Helps 0-4 Start, Chris Snee Out For Season With Surgery

The New York Giants have been one of, if not the worst team in football through the first quarter of the season, but at 0-4, amazingly they are not totally out of the division race and any chance they have for this season rests on a win at home against the Phialdelphia Eagles.

Heading into that game, the Giants have added some depth on defense, trading for linebacker Jon Beason from the Carolina Panthers. According to ESPN.com and other sources, the Giants traded for the linebacker for a possible late round draft pick, as their unit has been terrible defending the run this season and the team also felt it needed some type of spark heading into the game in Week 5 against the Eagles.

Beason comes to the team after being beat out by former Giant Chase Blackburn in the starting lineup and on top of that, he has been dealing with injury issues over the past couple years. Beason was a tackling machine for a while like Luke Kuechly is now and while he made the Pro Bowl three times, he is no longer that player and the Giants are hoping he can get back to that skill level once again.

Beason was not in the starting lineup when the two teams played a couple weeks ago and now he will suit up for the Giants once he is ready to go. The team surely could use the boost, as the Giants rank in the bottom part of the league in rushing and total defense and they have not been able to stop anyone. The Panthers have not been happy with the way he has played and the Giants are hoping he can get back to 2007 levels, which was when he made over 130 tackles and finished second in rookie voting.

Beason has dealt with injuries and now he will join a unit that includes Keith Rivers and Mark Herzlich and coordinator Perry Fewell is hoping that he can be a solid contributor right away. The team lost Dan Connor and have been thin at the position and now Beason will come in to try and set things right.

Not much has gone right for the Giants and now they likely will lose Chris Snee for the season if he undergoes hip surgery and David Baas could be out for the season as well. David Diehl will start against the Eagles and the Giants are hoping his return sets things right.
