The Houston Texans are still reeling after their stunning overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 4 of the NFL season and with Matt Schaub throwing a pick six to Richard Sherman to help tie the game, many have wondered what the future holds for the franchise quarterback.
Some fans have started burning jerseys and while the team has not done that much, according to Pro Football Talk, they could decide to make a move eventually, as they could get out of his contract following this season with relative ease. The report from PFT says that the team could get out of Schaub's long-term contract salary cap wise, since the team could make him a "post-June 1 cut" after the 2013 season, putting them in a situation where the cap hit could be under $4 million for 2014.
The team has T.J. Yates and Case Keenum as the backups on the roster and Yates was solid when he had to come in and play for Schaub last season, but it remains to be seen whether the team wants to give up on him or not. Schaub has not thrown a pick six in three straight games, but according to ESPN.com, head coach Gary Kubiak said that he still believes in Schaub and that he will remain the quarterback for the team now.
Other players echoed that statement and despite the team allowing the Seahawks to come back from a 17-point deficit, they still are right there in the division race behind the Indianapolis Colts with a number of division games still to be played. The Texans have now lost two games in a row and are behind the 3-1 Colts and the Tennessee Titans in the division.
This season Schaub has eight touchdowns and six interceptions while passing for over 1,193 yards and while he is completing over 65 percent of his passes, the team now has lost two straight games to the Ravens and the Seahawks after defeating the Titans and the Chargers. Schaub had a solid game stats wise apart from the pick, as he passed for over 350 yards and two touchdowns in the game, but his two picks ended up being a big difference in the game.
