Lane Kiffin Fired At USC: Trojans Dismiss Head Coach After Arizona State Loss, Will School Chase Rams Jeff Fisher Next?

Sep 29, 2013 02:53 PM EDT

The USC Trojans have been trending downward for the past couple seasons after being ranked as the preseason number one team before 2012, but after too many blowout losses and disappointing performances, the school decided to fire their head coach.

According to ESPN.com, Kiffin was fired following the loss to Arizona State on Sunday and it ended a long road for the coach after coming over from Tennessee. The team was blowout and allowed over 60 points in a 62-41 loss on the road and Kiffin was fired after the team arrived home and now the Trojans will have a new head coach for the remainder of the season.

Kiffin initially had the support this season from athletic director Pat Haden, but after a string of disappointing losses, including ones last season that gave the team a 7-6 record, it was time to move on. The team was previously ranked in the top 25 this season and now the team is 3-2 and they have yet to win a Pac-12 game after losing to the Sun Devils.

The offense has not been performing and the Trojans are gaining under 400 yards per game and are scoring just 26 per game through five contests and the team still has tough games ahead. The Trojans have plenty of talent, but things never seemed to click with Kiffin and now the team still has games against Stanford, Oregon State, Notre Dame and UCLA on the schedule.

Previous rumors had the team chasing Jeff Fisher from the Rams and now that the job is open they could try that again.
