The NFL schedule is coming up on the first set of byes this season in Week 4 and with the Green Bay Packers and the Carolina Panthers off this Sunday, fantasy owners will be scrambling to replace quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Cam Newton and some of the top options include players like Mike Glennon, Ryan Tannehill, Philip Rivers and Brian Hoyer.
Rodgers and Newton are likely stalwarts for fantasy owners on their teams and both players have had solid starts to the season. Newton owners find it particularly hard when he has a bye, as Newton puts in rushing yards and is a threat on the ground to score points while also being deadly through the air. Newton had a massive game against the Giants with three touchdown passes, 45 yards rushing and a touchdown on the ground and he also passed for 223 yards.
Newton has the team back after an 0-2 start and he has done a good job of not turning the ball over and he will be tough to replace. Rodgers is also off to a nice start statistically, while his team is in a bit of disarray at 1-2 after the tough loss to the Bengals. Rodgers had two picks in that game after throwing for 480 yards and four touchdowns against the Redskins in Week 2 and now he must regroup with the Packers to get things on track.
In the opening game of the season he put up nice stats against the Niners with three TDs and 333 yards passing, but he only had 244 against the Bengals while completing 26 of 43 passes and he had two picks to just one TD. Now owners must scramble to find another quarterback if they don't have a solid backup and Tannehill could be the best option out there.
The Dolphins quarterback is still available in most leagues and he has been very good this season, completing over 63 percent of his passes in every game this season and throwing five TDs top just two picks. Tannehill has shown improvement from last season and with Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace on the outside, he now has plenty of weapons and could have some big numbers this week. He passed for over 300 yards in Week 2 against the Colts and while he is playing on the road against the Saints ion Monday night, he could come through.
Hoyer is a tough player to start, but he had a nice game last week against the Vikings and now he will play against a solid Bengals team. Chances are he won't throw three touchdowns and 321 yards again like he did last week, but in deeper leagues he could be a solid option. Philip Rivers has also been good this season through three games after having a tough 2012 and another name for deeper leagues is Mike Glennon. The rookie will start Sunday for the Bucs and with the team in total need of a win at 0-3, he could step up.
