Manchester United Transfer Rumors: David Moyes Has £25m Plot In Mind For Luke Shaw

Sep 20, 2013 02:23 PM EDT

Manchester United boss David Moyes has conceded defeat in his efforts to acquire Leighton Baines and has now set his targets on Southampton's own Luke Shaw in his continued search for a left-back.

Southampton have put a huge price tag on the teenager in order to scare off suitors, but it's unlikely to deter Moyes from fulfilling his goal, especially given that he wants to beat Chelsea and Tottenham to sign the England Under-21 defender.

Pulling off the deal will be tricky given that Southampton don't need to sell Shaw especially after he signed a five-year deal when he turned 18 in July.

This comes in the midst of rumors of Moyes and Wayne Rooney looking to resolve any grievances the player has with the club and even open up the opportunity to talk about a new contract at some point this season.

Although Rooney has made it clear that he wouldn't quickly forget the unhappiness he had during the summer when he and his advisors influenced the club to accept a bid from Chelsea, however, on Tuesday he said he felt playing for Moyes he has been assured that there will be no pecking order as far as he and Robin van Persie were concerned.

When asked about how he felt about Moyes, Rooney said:

"It's obviously good. He's a great manager and thoroughly deserves this job because of what he did at Everton. It's good to work under him and hopefully be successful together.

"I feel great. The training is a bit different under the new manager. I remember it from Everton. It's more intense. That's helping me. I feel good and am glad to be out playing.

"I have put my head down and worked hard and tried to do everything right. I have tried to show the right attitude. I have always felt that's a really important thing to do. That's paying off for me on the pitch. I feel fit and ready to do well."
