Jadeveon Clowney Gets Foot Surgery As South Carolina Star Will Not Miss Any SEC Games

Gamecocks star Jadeveon Clowney has gotten off to a slow start to the season after many made him the sexy Heisman pick heading into 2013 and after dealing with some discomfort in his foot, the South Carolina DE will have surgery to clear up any issues.

According to ESPN.com, the surgery for Clowney will not keep him out of any games for South Carolina and will help him with some pain that he has had in his foot on the right side since the start of the season. Clowney said that his right foot has been an issue this season and that he will have surgery to deal with bone spurs in his foot and it is an issue that has been around for him since playing in high school in the state.

Clowney won't miss any time on the field for the injury since the Gamecocks have a bye week coming up and the procedure follows a win over Vanderbilt for the team on Saturday and coach Steve Spurrier said that Clowney would be fine for the next game against UCF. The Gamecocks are expected to compete for the BCS this season and are ranked number 13 in the nation after going 2-1, including 1-1 in the SEC so far.

The team has two weeks before playing UCF and that gives Clowney enough time to rest and recover for the game. Clowney put up some monster numbers last season with 13 sacks and that was one reason why many felt he could win the Heisman as a defensive player. This season Clowney has had extra attention due to his breakout year and so far he has two sacks and 10 tackles over three games.

Clowney said that the injury has bothered him for years and that he finally now has the chance to take care of it. Clowney said that he could have continued playing through the injury and that it was something he could handle. South Carolina will play Kentucky after travelling down to play UCF and after that the schedule gets much tougher, as the team has Arkansas, Tennessee and Missouri on the road before hosting number 19 Florida.
