Fantasy Football Sleepers Week 3: DeAndre Hopkins Top WR Option After Houston Texans Win Against Titans

Sep 16, 2013 01:38 PM EDT

The Houston Texans have been looking for a legitimate number two receiver to compliment Andre Johnson for years and after striking out too many times, the team may have hit the jackpot in rookie wideout DeAndre Hopkins after his breakout performance against the Titans.

The Texans have played two thrilling games already this season, needing a nice comeback both times, including in the 31-28 victory over the Chargers in Week 1 and they needed another against the Titans in Week 2. The team eventually went into overtime after a fantastic play by Hopkins and then he ended things with a touchdown reception in the extra frame to seal the victory and a devastating loss for Tennessee.

Hopkins was forced to step up in the game after Andre Johnson went down with a concussion and he did just that for the Texans and for quarterback Matt Schaub. The team ended up winning the game 30-24 in overtime after his touchdown reception and that came after Arian Foster helped sent things into the overtime period with a touchdown and a two points conversion and now the Texans are 2-0 after two comebacks this season.

The game against the Titans wasn't as insane as the first game against the Chargers, as the team had to come back from 21 points in that game, but it still had its thrilling moments and it ended on what could be one of the most skilled catches of the year. Hopkins was covered on the sidelines, but he was able to reach over due to his size and skills and made the three-yard catch after knowing that he was one on one with the corner. Hopkins had great body and hand control on the catch and after his game on Sunday, he could be a bonafide sleeper in fantasy, especially if Johnson misses any time with a concussion.

Hopkins finished the game with seven catches for 114 yards and the winning touchdown and that was one of three the Schaub threw on the day and now the Texans are in a great position to start the season. The team had high hopes when they drafted Hopkins, as he was an explosive player in college and now it appears that his skills translate very well to the NFL game. While at Clemson Hopkins made some amazing plays on the field as a receiver and returner and after getting targeted 13 times in the game against the Titans, he could be a number one type threat going forward for the Texans.

In the first game he had just five catches for 66 yards, but he showed a sign of things to come with a 30 yards reception and he also averaged over 13 yards per catch in that came. He averaged over 16 on Sunday and scored his first career touchdown and now the duo of Hopkins and Johnson could end up being one of the best tandems in the league. The Falcons have Roddy White and Julio Jones, while the Giants have Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, but of all three of those teams, the Texans are the only ones that are 2-0 and one reason has to do with the play of Hopkins.

Hopkins is a must add in deep leagues and a big trade option for anyone worried about Andre Johnson coming back.
