New York Giants: Tom Coughlin Blasts Media Over David Wilson Coverage, Brandon Jacobs Gets Increased Reps as Manning Bowl Focus of Team

Tom Coughlin is tired of hearing about David Wilson. The head coach has been hounded with questions since the starting running back fumbled twice in the opening game and the Giants opted to sign Brandon Jacobs as insurance. Many are wondering what Wilson's future with the team looks like but Coughlin is not giving in to anymore questions regarding the running back.

"Geez. Man, oh man, oh man, oh man," Coughlin said, via the New York Daily News. "I can't say any more about David Wilson, except that if I watch him in practice and his technique doesn't improve, I'll let you know. OK? I'll let you know. In practice he's going to have to have the ball in that position all the time, not just when he thinks he's running free and there's nobody around him. I want to see the ball in the right spot all the time. And quite frankly there's nowhere else to go with this. I don't know what else to say to you. I realize it's a major issue for everybody. But there's a way to carry the ball and there's a way to protect the ball. Ball security is No. 1. And that's what he's going to have to demonstrate."

Coughlin is getting testy. The head coach is not dumb to the fact that there is little depth at the running back position for the team. Wilson and Jacobs are now the best options. Coughlin told the media there is no time for any player to be sitting in the doghouse with the Denver Broncos matchup coming up.

"As I've said many times, we need [Wilson]," Coughlin said. "He's necessary. He's going to have to overcome this issue. And he's a marked man now, so he's really going to have to overcome it."

It is clear that Wilson will remain the starter in New York. The running back insists that he is moving forward. He is not paying attention to the criticism surrounding him over the past few days. He is focused on making plays and helping the team.

Coughlin noted the game plan is to keep Wilson as the starter and possibly use Jacobs in short-yardage situations. The newly signed veteran is no longer able to handle a heavy work load but is still a great goal line player. Wilson is excited to have someone like Jacobs in the locker room who can serve as a great mentor.

"I am glad to have him back and he looked good out there," Wilson said. "All the years he has been in the league, he has learned something new and going out there, he has learned something new each year and he has experience, and we can use a guy like that to teach the younger guys and also help us go out on the field. He knows how to handle certain situations. In the heat of the battle he is a guy with experience."
