NFL Standings After Week 1: All Records and Top Performers from Season Openers

Sep 10, 2013 11:54 AM EDT

Week 1 records might not mean much. Heck, a few teams were extra lucky, winning by a blown call or a penalty late in the game. However, a win is a win and whether it was ugly or fair, fans and teams will take a win no matter what. Here are the NFL standings following the first full week of football.

AFC East: Patriots, Dolphins, Jets 1-0... Buffalo Bills 0-1
The Bills had a chance to win their ballgame against the New England Patriots, but Tom Brady has proven he can close games since the beginning of his career. The Miami Dolphins allowed the least points in the AFC East, giving up just 10 points to the Cleveland Browns. They also tied with the Patriots for the most points scored in the East, throwing up 23 points in Week 1.

AFC North: Bengals, Steelers, Ravens, Browns 0-1
Nobody in this division won in Week 1, proving this division will be a little tighter than expected. The Baltimore Ravens were smothered by Peyton Manning, while the Cincinnati Bengals could not hold on to a late lead in the fourth quarter. The Browns could not produce offense, but they scored one more point than the Steelers, who could not get into double digits.

AFC South: Colts, Texans, Titans 1-0... , Jaguars 0-1
Looks like the inevitable is already going down. First week into the season and we are getting a look at what will probably transpire through the rest of the season; Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans at the top of the division, while the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars stagger at the bottom of the pack. The Titans won, yes, but don't expect them to hang around at the top of the standings for too long.

AFC West: Chiefs, Broncos 1-0... Chargers, Raiders 0-1
The Chiefs shut down the Jaguars in Week 1, briefly making their defense as the best in the league. They only surrendered two points, while scoring 28 in Week 1. They might have some true competition as the Broncos were this week's highest scoring team. They scored seven touchdowns and Peyton Manning is already gunning after all types of single-season quarterback records.

NFC East: Eagles, Cowboys 1-0... Redskins, Giants 0-1
Well guess what? Two teams made drastic changes to their offense and they won the first game of the season. The Philadelphia Eagles' offense looks deadly as Chip Kelly's attack is real this season. The Dallas Cowboys are allowing Tony Romo to have more power on offense and he made the New York Giants pay in Week 1. The Redskins didn't look like a well-oiled machine, but Robert Griffin III is just getting his first snaps of the season, so look for them to struggle early on.

NFC North: Lions, Bears 1-0... Packers, Vikings 0-1
How the tables turn. The Bears and Lions finished the season at the bottom, but now they are here. By here, meaning the top of the division. The Detroit Lions offense looked unstoppable, scoring 34 points against the Minnesota Vikings. The question is, can they keep it up? The Packers and Vikings have some work to do, but expect them to make some noise in the division before the season concludes.

NFC South: Saints 1-0... Bucs, Panthers, Falcons 0-1
All of these teams played close games. In fact, between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Carolina Panthers lost by six points. The Atlanta Falcons lost by six points to the Saints. Easily, this division could have had three 1-0 teams, but this game is all about inches. The Panthers' defense was pretty solid throughout the game against the Seattle Seahawks, but they couldn't close out and their offense could not score. The Bucs lost because of a penalty committed by Lavonte David, it's that simple.

NFC West: Rams, 49ers, Seahawks 1-0... Cardinals 0-1
The Seahawks defense won it for them. No surprise there. The St. Louis Rams pulled through against the Arizona Cardinals, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter to seal the deal and take home their first win of the season. The San Francisco 49ers offense was definitely well oiled and struck a bit of luck as they beat the Packers 34-28. Their defense definitely has to tighten up.
