The Washington Redskins have plenty of fantasy football options with names like Robert Griffin III, Santana Moss and Alfred Morris on offense and despite losing to the Eagles, the team has a new name for fantasy owners to look at in Leonard Hankerson.
The wideout from Miami broke out big in Week 1, catching two touchdown passes from Griffin to finish with five catches for 80 yards after being targeted seven times. He had a long of 27 yards and averaged 16 yards per catch and now he could be an excellent option in deeper leagues for the Redskins, as Santana Moss and Pierre Garcon will likely get most of the coverage on sets for the team and he could put up some solid numbers.
Hankerson played in all 16 games last season and finished with 38 catches for 543 yards and three touchdowns and he could put up much better numbers this season as Griffin looks for other targets in the offense to step up. After playing in just four games in 2011, he looks primed to break out in 2013 and having Griffin as his quarterback could be a huge boost for him.
The team has a solid wide receiving core, but nothing elite and Hankerson could play a bigger part if he shows development like he did on Monday night football. The offense targets lots of players and Kyle Shanahan should continue to do that and after coming in third on the team in targets behind Moss and Garcon, he could continue filling that role. In PPR leagues he should be considered a valuable option, and he could be a redzone threat with his ball skills.
Last night he made the Eagles look bad on defense, beating his defending inside for his first touchdown and then standing perfectly in the end zone to grab his second touchdown to bring the Redskins back late. Griffin wasn't great on Monday night, but he didn't get hurt and threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. Next week the team plays the Packers and after how they looked against the 49ers, things could get interesting in Week 2.
