Spain midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes the unity among the players in the national side is as high as it has ever been.

The defending world and European champions go into a friendly international against Chile on Tuesday, with the previous encounter against the side in mind when players from Real Madrid and Barcelona got involved in a scuffle on the pitch.

However, Barcelona player Fabregas believes the differences between the two rival club's players is behind them and the tension that existed is now a thing of the past.

"I remember what happened in that friendly in Switzerland two years ago," he told reporters.

"There was a lot of tension between the players of Real Madrid and Barcelona at the time, but we came together.

"Now there is a great atmosphere. We are very professional and know how to separate the difference in our clubs.

"We fight for the same goal, which is one of the keys that has brought us good results."

Fabregas also expressed his happiness at being a regular in the Spain starting XI under Vicente Del Bosque, while also remaining wary of the threat posed by Chile, who are out for revenge.

"Every time I am selected I feel more important," Fabregas said. "It makes me feel special and want to play on.

"Chile are warriors and tend to run around a lot if you let them. They are very competitive are very talented, with important players playing in big clubs. I'll have to go out and compete.

"I talked to (Barcelona teammate) Alexis (Sanchez) about the match. He tells me they are very motivated and are eager to beat us in revenge for what happened in the last friendly and in the World Cup."

Meanwhile, manager Del Bosque has asked his players not to drop their level against Chile.

"We are going to use the occasion to allow everyone to participate and use the game as preparation for the matches with Belarus and Georgia next month," he said.

"If we don't take Chile seriously we will suffer, because they compete to the highest level and are always looking to attack. They have always been a very physical side when we've played them."
