This will be the second time in back-to-back years it will be Williams vs. Azarenka in the finale. In 2012, the two met in the Women's Singles final and unfortunately for Azarenka, she was playing the hottest tennis player on the planet. For Williams, it was the conclusion of dominant season, something we hadn't witnessed in a couple of years.
For the sixth time in her career, Williams will attempt to win two majors in one year. Last year, after two years without winning a major title, Williams bounced back in Wimbledon, repeated another victorious run with a gold medal performance at the London 2012 Olympics and wrapped up the year with her win a U.S. Open.
Williams' opponent, Azarenka, is also vying for her second grand slam title of the season. It would be the first time in Azarenka's career where she would capture two major titles in one year. She had her year take off on a high note following her victory at the 2013 Australian Open. It was her second straight year winning at Melbourne, placing the 24-year-old as one of the top players in Women's Singles.
Williams won the 2013 French Open and will now eye the 17th major of her career. Azarenka will look to capture her third grand slam title.
So far in the tournament, Williams has yet to drop a set. She defeated Francesca Schiavone, Galina Voskoboeva, Yaroslava Shvedova, Sloane Stephens, Carla Suerez Navarro and Na Li. For Azarenka, Dinah Pfizenmaier, Aleksandra Wozniak, Alize Cornet, Ana Ivanovic, Daniela Hantuchova and Flavia Pennetta were no match as she bounced them round after round. Azarenka's ride wasn't as smooth however, dropping a set in back-to-back matches.
