Sep 05, 2013 08:07 PM EDT

Though the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are far removed from their extremely entertaining competition back in the early 2000's, you never know what to expect when these two meet on a baseball field. If you can't watch the game and you want to follow the score, check out MLB GameDay's play-by-play will all the info you need regarding the Red Sox vs. Yankees.

The Red Sox are the rulers of the A.L. East. It has been a great season for a team that struggled in 2012 and didn't make the playoffs. Now, the Red Sox are solely have playoffs in their sight and though the Yankees are not really a first-place threat, Boston will do what they can to keep them at bay. The Red Sox woke up with an eight-game lead in the standings, as the Yankees are currently in third place.

At 75-64, it's a miracle the Yankees have a winning record. They have been injured and Alex Rodriguez has been a huge distraction. However, professional as always, these Yankees have stuck together and managed to win with the team they are able to put on the field, despite their numerous injuries.

Enough chatter.

The game is currently in the Top of the 3rd with the Red Sox holding a 2-0 lead as they are hitting Ivan Nova. and threatening to put up more runs on the scoreboard.
