The Major League Baseball playoff races are heating up in September and after a sleepy spring and summer of draft rumors, training camps, offseason workouts, injuries and the always fun NFL preseason, real football is about to start with the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night.

College football started up last Thursday and there was plenty to watch on Saturday, but no NFL games, preseason or regular -- BUT! -- that won't be the case for a very long time, as that will be the last weekend without any NFL games until the Super Bowl in the winter. The summer is great, the weather is nice, but for sports fans, football season is what they wait all year for. The NFL has some great games in week 1, including plenty of divisional matchups like the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills, as well as the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints.

The new look Miami Dolphins will be playing the Browns in Cleveland, while the Buccaneers and Darrelle Revis will visit the Jets in MetLife Stadium. The Colts and Raiders will go at it in Indy, while the Green Bay Packers and the San Francisco 49ers will be facing off in a playoff rematch from last season. The Jaguars and the Chiefs are playing in the all 2-14 bowl, while the NFC East is going head to head with the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys playing on Sunday night.

The Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins are playing in the Monday Night Football debut, while the Houston Texans are playing the San Diego Chargers in the second game. The best looking game on the calendar looks like 49ers vs. Packers, but I'll go with Falcons and Saints as the best of the week. Finally, after a long year, there are no more weekends left without NFL football. YES.
