Taijuan Walker Mariners Live Stream: Watch Online Seattle Rookie Debut vs. Astros Friday at 8:10 PM ET

Aug 30, 2013 07:47 PM EDT

The Seattle Mariners are taking on the Houston Astros on Friday night and while a game between the bottom teams in the American League West isn't something to get too excited about, M's fans sure are, as rookie phenom Taijuan Walker was called up from Triple-A to make his first ever major league start.

Walker was called up this week by the Mariners and he is the first of their trio of young pitchers to make it to the majors, with James Paxson and Danny Hultzen also waiting in the wings and this sets up Walker as someone that can be in the rotation next season as well. Walker has played in the minors for four seasons and comes in with a 23-26 win-loss record with a 3.46 ERA and 400 strikeouts and the Mariners are hoping that his skills can translate to the majors. The team has had plenty of disappointment this season and this could be a bright spot.

The team designated Aaron Harang and took Walker from triple A to face the Astros and that should be a nice way to get into the majors, as Houston is the worst team by record in the league. Walker is just 21 years old and will be wearing number 27 and he is now the fifth youngest pitcher to debut in team history. Walker is a big pitcher and he also previously pitched in the futures game at All-Star celebrations and he comes into the big leagues with a 9-10 record, 2.93 ERA and 160 strikeouts over class AA and AAA over the season.

Walker is considered to be one of the top prospects in all of baseball and he starts on the same day that news came out that the Mariners traded Michael Morse to the Orioles. The Mariners have just 60 wins this season after coming in with high expectations and Walker is the symbol of what the future holds and the team is hoping that he can win a game and at least pitch well heading into the September schedule to end the season. The team will finish under .500, but hopefully they can get some nice pitching from their top prospect.
