Jeremy Lin Rumors: 'Linsanity' Movie Trailer Released, Expected To Hit Theaters In October (Video)

Jeremy Lin's rise from benchwarmer to worldwide phenomenon in 2012 was one of the most captivating storylines in sports in the past decade. And now it will be getting its own film.

The documentary film 'Linsanity' was produced with funds from a Kickstarter campaign that raised over $167,000 and has been screened at South by Southwest and Sundance festivals.

The film follows Lin's rags-to-riches success. USA Today has reported that he wasn't heavily recruited coming out of high school and ended up playing college basketball at Harvard. He went undrafted in the 2010 NBA draft before signing a contract with the Golden State Warriors. After not seeing the floor much in his rookie season, he signed - and was cut by - the Houston Rockets before eventually landing with the New York Knicks.

Lin didn't play much in New York, either, and was on the verge of getting cut until February 2012, when he finally started getting minutes in their imploding season and began lighting up the league. The resulting "Linsanity" crazy became an unstoppable cultural event and Lin became an icon overnight, especially to Asian Americans, an underrepresented demographic in American pro sports.

Lin is about to enter his third season in the league and already will have a film documenting his success. The trailer looks promising and the film is scheduled to hit theaters in select cities on October 4, 2013.
