LA Angels Rumors: Mike Scioscia On The Hot Seat? Manager Could Be Fired After Fox Sports Reports Rift With GM Jerry Dipoto

Aug 26, 2013 09:18 AM EDT

The Los Angeles Angels have been mired in a very tough season in 2013 despite signing Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols in each of the past two offseasons and with the team out of playoff contention, the job status of manager Mike Scioscia has come into question.

Earlier in the season there were reports that the team was thinking about making a chance at manager, but no move was made to change things at the top. The team is now 16.5 games back in the American League West with a 58-71 record and with .500 looking like it's not even going to happen, the talk of Scioscia's job security has come up again after reports came out about him and general manager Jerry Dipoto being at odds over the direction of the franchise.

Scioscia has won a World Series with the team and has been in his position as manager for over a decade and he said over the weekend that there were no issues between the two. ESPN.com cited a Fox Sports report that said the organization is likely to replace either Scoscia or Dipoto after the season because there are "philosophical differences" on each side. The manager refuted those reports and said that there is nothing to the report and that there are no issues after his hitting coach Mickey Hatcher was fired in 2012.

The team is ranked eighth in runs and seventh in batting average this season despite their poor record and they are also ranked sixth in on base and seventh in slugging percentage. The the plays the Rays next starting on Tuesday.

"You're not going to agree on everything. That's healthy," Scioscia said. "You have to have conversation. You've got to throw it on the table and just see if it has merit, talk about it, peel the paint off of it and I feel that's happening."
