After a dismal start to their English Premier League season, Newcastle will want to put things right in their first home game when they host West Ham.

The Magpies were thoroughly outclassed by Manchester City on Monday and Alan Pardew will be determined to set things right against West Ham first and then Fulham next week to appease the ever-growing discontent amongst the fans.

"I certainly think they're two important games for us, two home games and a new start for us this season after a difficult night on Monday and a whole manner of issues going on," the Newcastle manager said.

"But we certainly hope to put a smile on our fans' faces on Saturday. The most important people are them, that they turn up on Saturday. We need a really positive attitude at the ground for the team.

"Forget about anybody else at this football club: the team needs support because we had a bit of a rough time on Monday night and we need to lift ourselves.

"We want to set our stall out on Saturday and put in a performance where our fans can walk away hoping that we can build on that with new signings. That's the ideal scenario for us."

Pardew is still mulling whether to name Yohan Cabaye in the squad after the French midfielder was left out for the game against Manchester City following a bid from Arsenal. Newcastle have several other injury problems with Davide Santon and Jonas Gutierrez doubts, while Loic Remy is ruled out.

Defender Steven Taylor serves the first of his three-match suspension after being sent off against City.

West Ham, who began the season with an impressive 2-0 win over Cardiff City, are still without injured duo Andy Carroll, who missed the chance to play his former team, and George McCartney.

"You cannot ease off, every time you do that in this league you get punished," manager Sam Allardyce said. "We have to be 100 percent focused and we have to improve our away form from last season, starting with Saturday's game at Newcastle.

"Even though Newcastle had, probably a poor performance Alan would say in the end, that was only brought about by circumstances and Manchester City being absolutely brilliant.

"First game of the season at St James' Park and the fans will lift the players, so we will have to be on top form to make sure we get a result."
