Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Tracy McGrady Says Kobe Bryant A Much Tougher Defensive Assignment Than Michael Jordan (Video)

Aug 23, 2013 09:42 AM EDT

Former NBA star Tracy McGrady was spotted by TMZ while entering an airport and was asked who the toughest player he ever faced was, not Michael Jordan, but Kobe Bryant.

Bryant recently said that McGrady was his toughest assignment defensively, and it would appear at first that McGrady is just sending some praise back.

The TMZ report has video of their cameraman starting his impromptu interview by referencing this list and saying Bryant tipped his cap to McGrady's talent, but it's obvious that McGrady clearly means what he's saying.

"Really? That's my dude," said McGrady upon hearing of Bryant's comment. When asked who the toughest player he played against was, he answers very quickly with, "It's Kobe...all day."

Sure McGrady's comments will attract backlash from irate fans, but coming from McGrady's perspective it makes perfect sense as he went on to say, "I didn't play against Mike in his prime."

The former NBA star, who began his career with the Toronto Raptors in the 1997-98 season-the year that marked the sixth and final championship Jordan enjoyed with the Bulls. With those facts in play it would be rather obvious that McGrady would take Bryant over Jordan, even if he did see Jordan a few times in his rookie season.

If anything McGrady would have a sharper memory of Jordan as a member of the Washington Wizards, which we can all agree is a lesser version of that of the one from his Chicago days.

Sure this could be debated more but in this case, it makes perfect sense.
