Chris Paul Elected Union President: Clippers PG Named National Basketball Players Association Head, Better For NBPA Than LeBron James?

Los Angeles Clippers point guard Chris Paul is one of the most well-known players in the entire NBA and now he will be the most high-profile leader of the National Basketball Players Association since Patrick Ewing was the head in 2001.

According to ESPN.com, Paul was elected to the position after a two-day meeting in Las Vegas and afterwards he said that he had been thinking about the move for quite some time. Paul has been heavily involved in union activities in his career and was a vice president on the union's executive board over the past four years and now he will replace Derek Fisher with an 18-month term as the union tries to turn itself around.

The union was previously led by Derek Fisher and previously LeBron James and Roger Mason had said that they were thinking about running, but LeBron changed his mind beforehand. Paul signed a five-year, $107 million deal this past summer and now the hunter will try and move on from the tenure of Billy Hunter, who resigned in disgrace earlier in the year after mismanagement issues.

Jerry Stackhouse was also a union vice president and eh said that the union will be putting an executive director in place sometime soon, likely before Adam Silver takes over as NBA commissioner.

"I've been thinking about (running) for a while on and off," said Paul. "I've had a lot of dialogue about it with committee members. I wouldn't have taken on the role if I was going to do it alone."
