Ichiro Suzuki recorded the 4,000th professional hit of his career on Wednesday night, getting a single against the Toronto Blue Jays in the first inning at Yankee Stadium, reaching the immortal number with a hit to the left side through into the outfield.

Ichiro has nearly 3,000 hits in the MLB with 2,722 and he could threaten 3,000 with another couple solid seasons and combined with his hits in Japan, he now has 4,000 professionally. Ichiro is considered one of the best hitters of all-time and he likely will be a Hall of Famer some day.

UPDATED from Tuesday. Former Seattle Mariners star and current Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki is on the cusp of doing something historic in baseball history after going 2-5 against the Blue Jays on Tuesday afternoon, as he is just one hit away from 4,000 career hits.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, Suzuki needs one hit to reach the mark of 4,000 and that would bring him in company with Pete Rose (4,256) and Ty Cobb (4,191), who are the only other players in history with that many hits. Ichiro has his stats split between Japan and the US in Major League Baseball, but combined he is on his way to history and a Hall of Fame plaque.

During his career he has 2719 major league hits and that comes after he had 200 hits in 10 straight seasons, a record streak that came to an end last year. Go go go Ichiro!
