Tim Tebow Trade Rumors: Patriots Signing Shows How Crazy All Those Rumored Trades To Cardinals, Browns, Seahawks and Bears Really Were (SWR Flashback)

Tim Tebow is now nestled into a solid spot with the New England Patriots and after Bill Belichick signed him to a two-year deal after being released by the New York Jets, there is a very good chance he will make the 53-man roster despite not usually carrying three players at the position.

Tom Brady had a knee scare and while he was fine after practice and played well in the preseason, the Patriots are rightly worried and having Tebow isn't the best option in the world, but it's better than just Ryan Mallett, because at least Tebow has started in this league before. While he was with the Jets there were massive trade rumors around the draft, including ones that seem crazy now, but at the time were somewhat realistic, including the Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears as well as Cleveland Browns, who were also reportedly interested in Ryan Mallett too.

Most of the rumors were just that, rumors, but clearly the interest for the Patriots was real and that is one reason why Belichick signed Tebow, as he felt he could get something significant out of him for this coming season. Tebow was barely used by the Jets and he ended up with barely over 100 yards rushing and the team was simply a mess when talking about him and Mark Sanchez. Everyone realized that the Jets could make a move crazy enough to trade Tebow, although obviously they decided to release him instead.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appeared to be an option at one point as well before drafting Mike Glennon, as did the Raiders before drafting Tyler Wilson. The Saints needed a backup at one point as well and it may have been a good fit for Tebow, as Sean Payton is a brilliant offensive mind and there would be no issues about him starting over Drew Brees or anything like that. Of course there were also rumors of Canadian Football, the Arena League and Indoor Football as well as him getting into television, but clearly things worked out for the best for Tebow.

Tebow signed with the Patriots just before the Aaron Hernandez story broke, making it the first time his movements were not the main headline. Obviously that's the case now. Here is a look at some of those zany rumors.

Here is an article detailing how he would fit with the Patriots or the Seahawks. Hey, nice prediction!

"Another option for Tebow could be the Seattle Seahawks, as Pete Carroll is a unique NFL mind and he still needs a backup for Russell Wilson after trading away Matt Flynn to the Oakland Raiders. Weinke has proven to be a good instructor for quarterbacks and he has worked with a number of prospects in the 2013 draft, including Geno Smith, Tyler Wilson and EJ Manuel, as well as USC Trojans star Matt Barkley, who worked with Weinke before having his pro day for NFL scouts."

A Bears or Buccaneers trade in the works?

Other possibilities include the Arizona Cardinals, who have three ineffective quarterbacks, as well as the Chicago Bears, who hired a new head coach in Marc Trestman that has connections to Tebow. Trestman worked with Tebow prior to the NFL draft and had great praise for him following those workouts.

According to USA Today: In Canada's National Post, Trestman compared Tebow to Trestman's staggeringly effective QB for the Montreal Alouettes, Anthony Calvillo:

"We have a quarterback who has a long delivery and he's one of the greatest quarterbacks and will finish as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time north or south of the border so he does it with a motion very similar to what Tim Tebow used in college. When you're an accurate passer and you have the intangibles that go along with that you can figure it out and make it work and whether Tim changed his motion or not I believed he would figure it out and I don't have any doubt that he'll be very, very successful," Trestman said.
