The Luis Suarez transfer saga has not ended just yet.

After reportedly saying he had decided to stay with Liverpool and with it ending Arsenal's chances of landing the Uruguay international, Suarez, speaking to reporters after his country's 4-2 friendly win against Japan, denied making any of the published comments.

Uruguay newspaper El Observador had quoted Suarez as saying that the striker would be staying with Liverpool next season.

"For now, owing to all the affection of the people, I would be staying," Suarez apparently said according to the newspaper.

However, Suarez vehemently denies making those comments, while choosing to remain quiet over his future, something he had decided to do before linking up with the Uruguay national team.

"I didn't say that," Suarez said when asked about the comments. "Maybe someone else did and the main thing is that I am here now with the national team."

Uruguayan journalist Martin Chaquero had also claimed that Suarez had told him he would be staying.

"Luis Suarez confirms to me he will not leave Liverpool," he said. "The support of the fans has influenced his decision.

"Suarez see it as likely that he'll sign a renewal (extension) to the contract that binds him to Liverpool."

Chaquero later tweeted: "Sources close to Luis Suarez have confirmed his decision to stay at Liverpool."

If Suarez's latest quotes prove to be true, then it will be a huge boost to Arsenal and Arsene Wenger, who is desperate to land a marquee signing to not just appease the fans but also take Arsenal up a level - something they have threatened to do, but not quite managed over the last few years.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann believes Liverpool should sell Suarez.

"He has disrespected the football club, and the history and the heritage of the club," Hamann told Talksport.

"I think the club will be better without him and I don't think the team will be worse off without him.

"In football you need a team. One player doesn't make a team, one player doesn't make a football club.

"As we have seen in the past, the likes of (Fernando) Torres, (Kenny) Dalglish, (Robbie) Fowler, (Ian) Rush, (Michael) Owen have all left and the club carried on. Most important is a good team and the man who is in charge."
