Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Arsene Wenger Targets Luiz Gustavo In A Deal Close To £14m, Refuses To Give Up Luis Suarez

Arsenal are apparently on the verge of agreeing to a £14million deal to land Bayern Munich's Brazilian international Luiz Gustavo.

According to the Mirror, Gustavo, who has already been capped 10 times by Brazil and played in their Confederations Cup triumph earlier this summer, is expected to seal a deal before next week's Premier League opener against Aston Villa at the Emirates.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that the club hasn't given up on the prospect of signing Luis Suarez from Liverpool.

Wenger said: "There is nothing concrete - at the moment.

"We want to play 55 games this season and I think we are a little bit thin squad-wise.

"I also haven't given up hope on Suarez. If I read what people are saying about him, then maybe I would give up. But we will do it the right way.

"I am an optimist. That's why I do this job. We have kept the squad together for the first time in many years so I am happy."

Suarez thinks highly of the prospect about playing for Arsenal and wants to speak with the club about a potential transfer but he is still believed to be harboring hopes that Real Madrid would come calling, despite their declaration about not being interested.

For now the club will see how everything plays out and therefore until the clause is sorted out one way or another there is little to no chance that they'll increase their bid.
