Wayne Rooney has taken time out to thank England manager Roy Hodgson for having faith in him to pick him in the England squad for the friendly against Scotland next week.

Rooney has so far not featured in any of United's preseason games apart from a closed doors match against Real Betis.

However, that has not stopped Hodgson from naming Rooney in his squad and the England international expressed his appreciation on his official Facebook page.

"Can't wait to join up with the England squad and hopefully play in a competitive match, they always are against Scotland," Rooney said.

"Big thanks to Roy Hodgson for selecting me and showing his faith and support, appreciate it."

Those comments can be interpreted any number of ways, but it is becoming increasingly clear that Rooney is looking for a way out of Old Trafford this summer, with Chelsea waiting in the wings.

David Moyes is again widely expected to leave Rooney out of the squad for the Community Shield game against Wigan on Sunday, but United remain adamant in their stance that Rooney is not for sale.

United legend Bryan Robson is aware of the situation and believes Chelsea have shown Rooney a total lack of respect by putting in bids that he considers is nowhere near the valuation of the player.

"The thing that makes me laugh is I've been told it (the latest bid) is £25 million ($39 million) to £30 million ($46.5 million)," Robson told talkSPORT.

"For Wayne Rooney? A 27-year-old who is probably in the top six strikers in the world?

"What are United going to have to pay to replace him? I'm amazed at that. I think it is an insult to Wayne Rooney."

Robson remains hopeful that Rooney can overcome his disillusionment with the club and make his mark on the new season as a United player.

"I don't know what's in the head of Wayne and his agent -- why he wants to leave," he added.

"I know he had loggerheads with Sir Alex but David Moyes is the manager now.

"To me it is so important for him to concentrate on his football this season.

"I don't know what he sees -- the grass is greener on the other side -- the fans love him, the players love him so I don't see what the unsettlement is.

"Everyone would like to see Wayne Rooney settle down and be part of the team to try to retain the title."
