Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Kobe Bryant 'Shattering' Achilles Recovery Timetable As All-Star Guard Ahead Of Schedule

As Los Angeles Lakers fans await the return of All-Star Kobe Bryant to the floor at Staples Center, while on tour this weekend in the Southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, Bryant revealed good news about his recovery status from an Achilles tendon tear he suffered last season.

Bryant said not only is he ahead of schedule in coming back from the surgery he had on the torn Achilles back on April 13 but that he's "shattered" the timetable that would traditionally be associated with such an injury of that magnitude.

"We don't know" Bryant told the gathered reporters. "That's the thing about this injury is that the surgical procedure was different how we did it was different. Because of that the recovery has been different the timetable has been different the normal timetable for recovering from an Achilles we've shattered that. Three-and-a-half months I can already walk just fine I am lifting weight just fine. So we don't know what that timetable is going to be this is new territory for us all."

Bryant added:

"The surgical procedure was different [...] and because of that the recovery has been different," Bryant said in the southern city of Shenzhen. "The normal timetable for recovery from an Achilles, we've shattered that. Three-and-a-half months I can already walk just fine, I'm lifting weights with the Achilles just fine and that's different. So we don't know what that timetable is going to be. It's kind of new territory for us all."

With Bryant walking around and touring China, the crafty veteran is aiming to rejoin the starting lineup on the Lakers opening night when they take on the Los Angeles Clippers on Oct. 29. The only question is whether Bryant will be back to his old self as the veteran will be turning 35 later this month and will be coming back from an injury countless other weren't truly able to overcome, like NBA greats like Isiah Thomas and Dominique Wilkins.

For now, we'll see what the future holds.
