The Toronto Raptors have made a number of solid moves this offseason after bringing in general manager Masai Ujiri and after trading away Andrea Bargnani, the team signed Tyler Hansbrough and D.J. Augustin and now they have added another solid player in Austin Daye.
According to ESPN.com, Daye signed with the team on a two-year, $2 million deal and he now adds some depth and rebounding skills to the frontcourt. The team already traded for Rudy Gay during the season and now Daye joins the new-look Raptors after averaging 4.5 points and 2.2 rebounds for the Grizzlies and Pistons last year. Daye was originally drafted by the Pistons and then ended up in Memphis as part of the Rudy Gay trade and now they are teammates. Daye is solid from three with over 40 percent shooting and that could be a huge boost for the team.
According to ESPNNewYork.com, Daye was in town for a workout after not being given a qualifying offer by the Memphis Grizzlies and while the Knicks were interested, they obviously passes. Daye didn't get much playing time last season while averaging 4.5 points and 2.2 rebounds for the Grizzlies and Pistons.
The Knicks need some extra depth on the bench and despite not doing much after being a first round pick, Daye could have been a good addition to the roster. The 25-year-old is still young and has potential to grow and since the Knicks have some depth issues in spots, he could help that despite his career averages of 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game. While the team isn't going to play him for long stretches anyway, his 36 minute averages come out to 13.1 points and 6.5 rebounds, something the Knicks could try to build on, but obviously won't get the chance to and they now could look at other names like Lamar Odom or Chris Douglas-Roberts.
