Jake Peavy Trade Rumors: Scratched From Start Means That A Deal Is Imminent?

Jul 30, 2013 11:26 AM EDT

Nobody knows where he's going, but everybody knows one thing; Jake Peavy will not take the mound Tuesday evening as the Chicago White Sox get ready to face the Cleveland Indians. This is a hint that the White Sox are ready to trade Peavy as the deadline is on Wednesday.

Though this latest move points to a trade, the White Sox have done a horrible job marketing Peavy in the past 24 hours. First, it was the Oakland Athletics who were the favorite to land the righty. Then, they dropped out of the race. The White Sox then proceeded to claim they would be keeping Peavy if the right deal didn't surface. Now, they announced that they are scratching Peavy from his scheduled start.

The Baltimore Orioles have also dropped out of the Peavy Sweepstakes, but the Boston Red Sox are actively searching for a starter on the market.

Baseball analysts and insiders believe Peavy can only do a team good, especially those contending, trying to make the postseason. He is 8-4 with an unimpressive 4.28 ERA, yet owning a 1.14 WHIP. Peavy's weakness has been the long ball having surrendered 14 home runs in 2013.

White Sox fans will have a chance to see a potential ace for the White Sox organization. Taking the mound today for Chicago will be 25-year-old, Andre Rienzo. As Chicago Tribune's Mark Gonzalez reports, he would become the first Brazilian pitcher to start a game in MLB's history. Rienzo, a San Paulo native, has been lights out in 2013 while pitching in Charlotte. In 20 starts this season, he is 8-6 with a 4.06 ERA with 113 strikeouts in 113 innings. His last four starts have been incredible as the right has gone 29.1 innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out 28 batters.

It will be an interesting 24 hours for White Sox fans as they will more than likely see one pitcher leave town, but can possibly witness the beginning of a new career and face of the franchise on Tuesday night.
