The Detroit Tigers are looking to sweep the Chicago white Sox in the two team's four-game series with an afternoon game at U.S. Cellular Field. The Tigers have not swept the White Sox in more than 33 years. The match-up will feature two of major league's marquee pitches, one of which could be seeing his final game in Chicago.

Justin Verlander takes the field for Detroit. His season can be described as inconsistent at best. After winning 17 games last season, some find his 10-7 record and 3.69 ERA just not up to par. He has not had recent success against the White Sox which could haunt him again today. He gave up five runs and 12 hits when the two played each other on July 9. Prior to that, he went 12-1 against Chicago in his previous 13 starts. The right-hander has not been pleased with his performances to date.

"It's been a see-saw battle," Verlander said. "I haven't been able to find it. I'm trying to find that consistency."

Verlander's season might be welcoming to Jake Peavy. Going 7-4 with a 4.19 ERA on the season, this could be Peavy's last game in a White Sox uniform. The pitcher has been the center of numerous trade rumors of the past few days. The Atlanta Braves are taking a heavy look at the starter after losing Tim Hudson to a broken ankle on Wednesday night. Peavy is playing just his second game since sitting on the disabled list for a fractured rib.

Peavy is 0-3 against the Detroit Tigers with a 7.13 ERA in his past four starts. The pitcher will get a break with Miguel Cabrera out of the lineup with a hip flexor injury.
