The Atlanta Braves will look to close out their series against the New York Mets. It will be an NL East battle and they will have young guys on the mound. If u can't watch the ball game, check out both team's local radio stations for coverage of the live action.
PITCHING MATCHUP
Zack Wheeler has been everything the Mets have expected. He's 3-1 with a 3.58 ERA, pitching 32.2 innings, striking out 26. The only sour note it Wheeler's performance at home. He's 0-1 and has yet to pitch beyond the fourth inning at Citi Field. In his two starts in Queens, Wheeler has gone 4.2 innings, totaling 9.1 innings pitched with a 6.97 ERA.
The good news is that Wheeler has defeated the Braves in the past. In fact, Wheeler pitches scoreless baseball in Atlanta when making his major league debut back on June 18. He went six innings without allowing a run, but had plenty of runners on base as he walked 5 batters. He finished with seven strikeouts, proving that he can make hitters miss at the professional level.
Once again opposing Wheeler is Braves youngster, Alex Wood. The faced off back in Atlanta when Wheeler made his debut, but the Braves' starter was on the losing end of the affair. He pitched decently going three innings allowing only one run. This will be his second start of his career and coincidentally, it comes against the Mets.
The Braves won the first meeting if the four-game series, 2-1 after rallying in the ninth inning and getting a game-saving web gem from Jason Heyward. It was all Mets in Game 2 as they took that meeting 4-1. The Braves came back roaring last night, winning the third game 8-2 behind three home runs.
