EPL Transfer News: Damiao Set for Internacional Stay as Michael Laudrup Reveals He Snubbed a Chance to Manage a Champions League Club

Internacional intend to keep their prized asset Leandro Damiao at the club this summer, while Michael Laudrup has revealed he turned down a move to manage a Champions League club by deciding to stay with Swansea.

Damiao has been a long-term target for Tottenham and it would come as no surprise if the English Premier League side made yet another late bid to sign the Brazilian international this summer.

However, Internacional president Luis Cesar Souto De Moura, after seeing a bid made by his club for Nilmar rejected, believes keeping Damiao, who has also interested Italian side Napoli, until the 2014 World Cup might be the way to go.

"If Al-Rayyan can keep Nilmar, we can keep Leandro Damiao, even if there is a big offer," Moura told Radio Bandeirantes.

"It's silly to sell Leandro Damiao this year, he has the chance to play the World Cup and improve at a personal and professional level.

"We are confident and we understand that he can wait another year, play the World Cup, increase his value with the national team and then be transferred and have other opportunities."

Meanwhile, Swansea manager Laudrup insisted he never considered leaving the Welsh club this summer, despite constant links with a move away.

"I've never been close to leaving because I said I would stay this season, it's important to us," Laudrup told Sky Sports News.

"We still have to consolidate this team, this club and a promise is a promise -- that's why I'm here.

"Yes, it's true, there were some approaches from big clubs as well, even from Champions League clubs, but I said I was going to stay here."

Swansea have been extremely busy this summer, with Laudrup making his now customary signings from La Liga, while also completing a club record move for Wilfried Bony from Vitesse Arnhem.
