Los Angeles Lakers Rumors: Chris Kaman Confident He Could Return To All-Star Form

Jul 17, 2013 08:31 AM EDT

The Los Angeles Lakers formally introduced newly acquired center Chris Kaman during a press conference on Tuesday. Kaman smiled for cameras and posed with his new jersey alongside GM Mitch Kupchak, sporting the number nine for the first time in his career.

Kaman was once a former All-Star in 2010 as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers, being named as a reserve when he averaged 18.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 76 games.

Although expectations aren't high for Kaman to duplicate those numbers, he still believes he has it in him to do so:

"I don't think that much has changed in me mentally or physically. Sometimes people just get hurt [...] I feel confident that I can be at that (All-Star) level."

With Dwight Howard departing for Houston, Kaman will likely be seeing plenty of minutes this season at the center position.

Last season in 66 games with the Dallas Mavericks, Kaman averaged 10.5 points, and 56. rebounds. Kaman has averaged 11.8 points, and 5.6 rebounds in 10 seasons, playing for the Clippers, Mavericks, and New Orleans Hornets (Pelicans).

However, Kaman has been prone to injuries. He was limited to 32 games in 2010-11 because of problems with his back, left ankle and right knee. A strained arch in his left foot contributed to him playing only 31 games two seasons before that.
