Home Run Derby 2013 Results: Yoenis Cespedes Wins Tournament to Be Crowned Champion at Citi Field

Yoenis Cespedes won the 2013 Home Run Derby championship after crushing a total of nine balls over the fence in the final round to defeat Bryce Harper. With the win, Cespedes is now one for one in his home run derby career after making a masterful debut. Harper hit eight home runs in the final round, but the Cuban surpassed this total easily.

Bryce and his father, Ron, tried to duplicate some father and son magic, but the effort wasn't enough. Harper proved super consistent, hitting eight home runs in each round to total 24 in the derby. Cespedes, however, he totaled 32 in the entire tournament, proving to truly be the home run king at the derby.

Second Round Results
Cuddyer started the round with a lot of promise, hitting two home runs before committing an out. However, he cooled off before catching fire again. After committing his seventh foul, Cuddyer hit four straight. He finished the round with eight home runs, totaling 15.

Davis, the home run leader, couldn't advance to the second round, managing only four home runs in the second round of the competition. He hit some bombs, two of them going opposite field, but it wasn't enough to get him into the second round.

Harper put on a show as he smacked eight home runs once again to total 16 through the first two rounds. He was a home run shy of matching Cespedes' 17 home runs. Though Cespedes had automatically passed into the final round, he went up to the plate and went to the plate to stay loose. He hit six home runs in the second round to total 23.

First Round Results
The defending champion Prince Fielder almost hit one out of the stadium as he pulled one to right field that went 483 feet. He pulled one. Following Fielder was the old man, Michael Cuddyer's. He smacked a total of seven home runs in the first round, with his longest home run going 421 feet.

The ooh's and aah's were incessant as Yoenis Cespedes stepped up to the plate and began swinging. He hit 13 home runs after committing just five outs. He tired out and finished the round hitting 17 home runs, for one of the highest totals in a single round at a derby. Pedro Gomez interviewed after his performance and Cespedes said all he did was take it easy and look to make solid contact.

The Washington Heights kid, Pedro Alvarez stepped up and struggled committing four consecutive outs. Alvarez went on a rampage hitting a home run for ever out he made the rest of the way. With his six home runs, he tied Fielder in the first round. His longest shot went 461 feet and Alvarez was able to keep himself in the race.

Chris Davis hit three opposite field home runs and at one point hit four consecutive home runs with his longest shot going 451 feet. Davis was responsible for eliminating the defending champion, Fielder. Ron Harper, Bryce Harper's father, looked a little nervous as he missed inside and low repeatedly. However, Bryce was able to rally through, removing Alvarez from the competition.

The New York boys had no luck. Robinson Cano was gone in the first round once again, but this time he at least got a home run, unlike his homerless performance in Kansas City last year. He hit four home runs, with his longest going a total of 406 feet. For the second consecutive year, Cano finished with the least amount of home runs. If there's any positive to take from David Wright's performance it's that he matched the defending Home Run Derby champ, Fielder with five home runs.
