Baltimore Orioles batter Chris Davis launches his second home run of the game, his major league leading 30th of the year, against New York Yankees relief pitcher Ivan Nova during their MLB American League baseball game in Baltimore, Maryland June 29."

Baltimore Orioles star Chris Davis has put the MLB on notice after getting off to an historic start this season and just like every other player that sort of comes out of nowhere, people are going to start bringing up the PED and steroids questions.

Davis has been adamant that he is not on PEDs and he said that again to the Baltimore Sun, saying that he has "never" taken them and that he has worked out a great deal this offseason and is taking care of himself and that things are clicking at the right time for him. The last time a slugger for Baltimore came out of nowhere it was back when Brady Anderson hit 50 home runs and many in baseball feel that he was a prime candidate as a user.

Davis has been fantastic since coming over in a trade from the Rangers and this season he has hit 33 home runs in his first 92 games and now has set career high totals in home runs and RBIs this season. Davis is a big man at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds and his teammates have been loving his presence in the clubhouse this year and it has motivated them to play better.

Davis has the chance to his 60 and he said to the sun that he sees Roger Maris's record of 61 as the true home run record and since it still stands at the best in the AL ever, he will be in small company if he can reach that total. In 2001 Bonds hit 73 and now no one looks at that number as true and in 1998 Mark McGwire hit 70 and Sammy Sosa hit 66, but those two have been tarnished as well.

Davis came into this season after hitting 33 home runs and 85 RBI in 139 games last season and now he has new career highs with 34 home runs and 86 RBI through just 92 games this year and he is ready for more after the All-star break.

Said Davis: "I have never taken them. I have no reason to. I've always been a power hitter. With me, I think the biggest thing was the consistency of the contact ... When I was making contact, I was always hitting for power. I'm a guy that likes to work out a lot. I'm a guy that used to eat whatever I wanted to, but I started getting into my mid-20s, I've been seeing that change. So I've been taking better care of my body. I have a pretty strict diet. But I've never taken [performance-enhancing drugs]. I haven't felt the need to."
