Jaguars Rumors: Jacksonville Signs Denard Robinson As Team Gets Tim Tebow Effect With Offensive Weapon Without Media Circus

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed one of their top draft picks in "offensive weapon" Denard Robinson, becoming the sixth Jags pick to sign his rookie contract after being selected in the fifth round out of Michigan.

According to ESPN.com, financials were not disclosed by the team, but he likely received a four-year deal as a fifth round pick based on the collective bargaining agreement. Robinson is listed as an offensive weapon for the team and the reason for the Tim Tebow headline is that many fans were clamoring for the Jags to sign Tebow, as he could play a variety of positions for them, but instead they get a faster and more explosive player without any of the media baggage.

Robinson is one of the fastest players to come out of the draft and now he will be ready for training camp when it begins later this summer in July. Robinson is a versatile player and he may line up at many positions for the Jags like he did with the Wolverines in college. He played 37 games at Michigan as a starter, including 35 at QB and he also played running back and wide receiver.

During his time in college he set the NCAA record for career rushing yards with nearly 4,500 and he previously was listed as a running back before going under the offensive weapon designation. The Jaguars are hopeful about this draft class and especially with Robinson, as he proved to be an explosive force in college that should translate to the NFL.

General manager David Caldwell said he expects to have all his top picks in camp this month, including second overall pick Luke Joeckel.

"It's a great feeling to sign my first NFL contract," Robinson said. "It's something I've been waiting my whole life for and I'm ready to get to camp later this month and get back to work.  I was able to get a feel for the NFL game during the offseason and I look forward to getting the pads on and just keep improving with each practice."
