Arsenal Transfer News: Jack Wilshere Excited by Possible Higuain and Rooney Signings

Jack Wilshere said he is quite excited to see the likes of Wayne Rooney and Gonzalo Higuain being linked with the club and expects Arsenal to do some good business in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal confirmed their first signing of the summer in youngster Yaya Sanogo, but with Arsene Wenger armed with a considerable budget, quite a few big names are expected to make their presence felt at the club.

Rooney and Higuain are just a couple of big signings being linked, with Arsenal reportedly making an opening bid of around £20 million ($30 million) to Manchester United for Rooney.

Wilshere, an Arsenal man through and through, would welcome England teammate Rooney to the club with open arms.

"If it happens, it would be amazing," Wilshere told ESPN during a question and answer session.

"He (Rooney) is the type of player who can win you trophies -- and just to see his name on the team sheet brings fear to the opposition. We could do with a little more of that."

Another player understood to be close to signing for Arsenal is Higuain, with the Argentine already reportedly agreeing personal terms with the club.

Only a fee remains to be fixed upon between Arsenal and Real Madrid and Wilshere is encouraged by the kind of names being linked with the club in this summer's transfer window.

"You look at the type of players like Higuain we are trying to bring in and you have got to be encouraged," he said.

"I think we need a few more, not to step right into the team, but to add to the squad.

"We need our squad to be as deep as United's and (Manchester) City's. They can change their back four completely and still win. There is no way United would have won the Premier League trophy with 18 players.

"It is no secret we need to win a trophy. How long has it been now, seven or eight years?

"The players feel the pressure and we have gotten close a few times like with the Carling Cup a couple of years ago.

"I think once we win one, others will follow."

Wilshere has been plagued by injuries in the last couple of seasons, but after undergoing a minor procedure at the end of last season, the midfielder, who said his ankle is a "100 percent", is looking forward to finally getting a full preseason under his belt.

"I am really looking forward to having a solid preseason," he added. "I haven't had one in two years and once you miss it, you are always playing catch-up.

"It's a chance to show the manager that you deserve to be in the team and I think there's going to be competition for a few spots, but that's a good thing.

"If you're going to challenge for trophies, you need a big squad. You can't expect 11 players to do it every week."
